When Jessica Kopp, founder of Kopp Design, began scrapbooking in high school never would she have guessed the huge part it would play in her life.
In fact, after high school, she had pretty much stopped scrapbooking!
She earned an Associates Degree in Graphic Design at Ricks College and transferred down to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah to pursue her BFA in Graphic Design. She was also in pursuit of a job and soon found work as the art director of a major scrapbooking magazine. It was a job tailor-made for her.
Her experience there taught her two things:
The first she discovered immediately: that she still had a passion for scrapbooking! It wasn't long before she dusted off the old cropping goodies and began filling in the holes in her books--with a marriage, a new baby, and college graduation yet unscrapped there were a lot of holes to fill!
The second lesson took a little longer to sink in. Her position at the magazine gave her a kind of bird's eye view of the scrapbooking industry with its many quirks and niches. It also put her in contact with many of the industry's most creative minds and she learned from their experience and insight. Over time the idea began to creep in that maybe she might have something to contribute.
And so, in October, 2001 Kopp Design was born. We started modestly with a line of pattern paper and took it to HIA. The paper did well, but what was most remarkable was the reaction to the paper piecing projects that Jessica had created to showcase the paper! We took the hint and began producing paper piecing patterns.
The lesson that we've carried away from that experience is that what Kopp Design really has to contribute to the scrapbooking world is inspiration! We've spent every day since then creating products that we hope will inspire scrapbookers to new levels of creativity. Some products really challenge the hand skills while some are so easy to use that the only thing scrappers have to think about is where to put them. All of our products coordinate so the creative possibilities are endless!
Our newest collection, Mix&Match is near and dear to us. It is at the very heart of Jessica's graphic sensibilities and represents an evolution in the look of Kd!'s products and in the way that we look at our little company.
We're feeling inspired...we hope you'll come along for the ride!
